How to install Windows~Me without a previous OS installed
tip:
By Raymond, WenTechGeek.com -
Yes you can install Windows~Me without having a previous
operating system installed.
1. You need to have a pervious Windows version's CD available.
2. You need to copy the Windows Me source files to the
hard drive and installing from your hard drive is
recommended.
3. When you are prompted for a previous operating system,
simply insert your Windows95/98 CD and browse to the directory
where the source files are located.
4. You can then continue installing on a clean system
without having to install a previous version.
5. This should save a you lot of time in the event you
need to reinstall Windows Me from scratch.

Want to add some "live" content from the Internet

news headlines? The Active Desktop interface in Windows
Me can do it. The desktop item will be automatically updated
periodically to provide you with the latest information.
Here's how:
Right-click the desktop, point to Active Desktop, and
then click Customize My Desktop.
Make sure Show Web content on my Active Desktop is selected,
and then click New.
Now to add content, type a URL into the Location field,
Browse to find a picture or HTML document, or click the
Visit Gallery button to connect to the Microsoft Active
Desktop Gallery on the Internet.
Click OK and then OK again.
Temporarily Turn off Startup
By Raymond WebTechGeek
You may have some programs that you'd sometimes
like to run as part of your Startup group, but not always.
A handy solution is to put the shortcuts to these programs
in a separate StartUp.Not folder beneath the C:\Windows\Start
Menu\Programs folder (see Figure 3-4). You can then easily
drag the shortcuts from the StartUp.Not subfolder to the
regular Startup folder when you want to recommence running
the applications at startup time.
You can also keep Windows from loading the
Startup group at all by holding down the Shift key during
the Windows phase of the bootup process.
The Windows Startup Menu
By Raymond - WebTechGeek
The Windows Startup menu (shown earlier) gives you a
set of choices regarding how your computer starts before
Io.sys carries out its default commands. Io.sys reads
Msdos.sys before the Startup menu appears.
Normal > Starts Windows.
Logged > Same as Normal, but writes out the file Bootlog.txt,
which tracks the load and startup sequence.
Safe Mode > Starts Windows in Safe mode. Safe mode
is a generic Windows startup with VGA graphics, but no
networking.
Step-by-Step Confirmation > Same as Shift+F8. Ask
for confirmation before carrying out each command from
Io.sys. Helps to isolate trouble.
You can Customize the Windows
Media Player screen:
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com
You can specify the media information you'd
like to see on your screen. Choose a graphic equalizer,
captions, information about the media youre listening
to, or video setting controls.
Go to the View menu, point to Now Playing Tools.
Point to the options you would like to see or hide. You
can even choose to hide everything except the visualization,
which will expand to fill the available space on your
screen. If you don't like Windows Media Player, try WINAMP
or more here.
You can close several programs
at once:
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com
Ever get in a hurry and suddenly need to
close multiple programs and windows all at once? Yes.
Here's a real cool trick for getting that done fast!

button on the taskbar. Right-click one of the selected
buttons, and then click Close.

Here's how to reveal more information about
your CPU:
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com
To reveal a little bit more information on your CPU,
we've found this neat little trick (for Intel-based machines).
You starts with opening your Registry key using Regedit.
Here's how:
On the Start menu, click Run.
Type REGEDIT and then click OK.
Follow this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Description\System\CentralProcessor\0.
Click VendorIdentifier and put a space between "Genuine"
and "Intel" and then close Regedit.
Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
There is now a bit more information about your computer
listed underneath the 'Genuine Intel' line. You'll see
that your CPU comes from the "x86 Family A Model
B Stepping (version) C," where A, B, and C represent
the appropriate values in your system. This same information
is now available in the Identifier line on the path, two
rows above in the Registry. When you restart Windows Me,
the default information will be restored.
How to Change Windows Startup
Graphic:
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com
Before your computer displays the Windows
Desktop, you're treated to an animated (640 x 400) Microsoft
Windows advertisement. This graphic is embedded in the
Io.sys file in your root directory, and is easy to change.
